PET FRIENDLY Grand Canyon

PET FRIENDLY Grand Canyon

When bringing your pet with you on a trip to the Grand Canyon National Park, planning is everything. Within the park, there are significant restrictions on where your pet can go. First, pets are not permitted in any of the park’s lodges; cats and dogs (on leash or crated) are permitted in Trailer Village, Mather Campground, and NPS Desert View Campground. Additionally, pets are not allowed below the rim or on any of the park buses. On the South Rim, pets on leash are permitted on the hiking trails above the rim but on the North Rim, they are only allowed on the bridle path that connects the Grand Canyon Lodge with North Kaibab Trail and the portion of the Arizona Trail that continues north from there to the park entrance station.

That doesn’t mean, though, that you can’t stay at one of the beautiful historic park lodges or take a mule trip down below the rim. South Rim Kennel, located near Maswik Lodge, accepts dogs and cats. It’s open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and also offers overnight boarding, with food included, at very reasonable rates. You must provide proof of vaccination and reservations are highly recommended, particularly during the summer months and holiday.

Also take advantage of the pet-friendly lodgings and pet daycare and boarding in the Grand Canyon area, allowing you to explore the canyon during the day and come back to your waiting pet.
