"Stayed here a couple on nights with m6y two golden retrievers. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We asked for a non-smoking room and it was just clean and smoke-free. There is also a lot of space around the hotel to walk our dogs. Will stay here again if we travel back to Missouri."

Econo Lodge Pet Policies & Information

Econo Lodge is a staple of the North American travel experience. Especially if you are traveling with a pet. The vast majority of the chain's locations are situated near throughways and so finding a pet-friendly Econo Lodge is no problem. They are, as executive Kevin Bradt says, "a familiar beacon for travelers as they drive our nation's highways." Bradt's description is apt, as most road-trippers and commuters are bound to have seen one of Econo Lodge's 650+ locations during their transit careers. But what most may have not experienced is the traveler's right of passage of staying a night in one of the continent's most recognized lodgings. And what better way to spend such a night than with your fuzzy first mate by your side? If you ask us, there is none.

Pet Policy

All pet-friendly locations allow dogs, but not all permit cats, so make sure to check Petswelcome.com before booking. It also helps to check the location's breed and weight restrictions. Though some hotels allow large dogs, the majority ask that your pup's weight not exceed 50 lbs. All hotels allow two pets per room, and fees range from $10 to $25 per pet per night.

About Econo Lodge

Econo Lodge is more than happy to accommodate you and your pet. And with over 600 affordable pet-friendly locations, it's clear that this chain is an excellent choice for the traveling pet-lover. While Econo Lodge's pet policies are fairly consistent across the board, there are sometimes a few discrepancies between locations. But don't fret! Go to Petswelcome.com, where you can search the specific pet policy of your desired location.

Our reviewers at Petswelcome.com have reported a gamut of experiences, with some less positive than others. Some folks have said that they were given smoking rooms after explicitly asking for smoke-free lodging, and there have been reports of roaches as well. Positive comments include professional and friendly employees and free dog treats at the front desk!
Econo Lodge was first developed in Norfolk, Virginia, where the first location still operates. The chain was created by a father and son who decided to go into business together. After conducting market research and corralling the necessary investors, the duo set the starting price at $7. In the following years, the company changed hands numerous times until 1990, when Choice Hotels acquired it. When you stay at Econo Lodge, you're indirectly helping your fellow humans. That's because the chain has a history of providing shelter to individuals without homes. In 2020, they also did their part by housing those who were impacted by Covid-19 and didn't have housing to quarantine in. Staff members went above and beyond to separate infected guests from the non-infected so no transmission would occur. It feels good choosing Econo Lodge, knowing that you and your pup are helping those who are less fortunate.
